Today is Father’s Day. So, let’s honor our dads.

Several years ago, I shared a message I called “Irrevocable Blessing.” I’ve received emails about the lesson from people all over who read it online. The teaching wasn’t in video or audio, only written notes. A young man emailed me from Texas talking about how the sermon touched him. One woman, writing a book, wanted to know if she could use it in her book. She heard it when her pastor preached the sermon to his congregation. A few months ago a man called me from Florida. I was out of town. He left two messages before I could get back and see exactly what he was referencing. He asked me to please call him and speak this blessing over his life. I did. Today, I want to share some from the lesson targeted at fathers.

Fathers, what I want you to know today is the power of your words. You speak thousands of words every day , but do you realize the power in your words especially the words you speak to your children? Dads, your spoken words have an irrevocable aspect. Have you ever said something and wish you could get it back? You couldn’t and no matter how you apologized and attempted to make up for what you said, the damage your words did was irrevocable. Though our spoken words may not be recorded on paper they are recorded in to the concrete of souls and live there. This is true to whomever we speak, but exponentially to our children. A father’s spoken words get larger and larger, not smaller, with time.

James 3:9-10 Therewith BLESS we God, even the Father; and therewith CURSE we men, which are made after the similitude of God. OUT OF THE SAME MOUTH PROCEEDETH BLESSING AND CURSING. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place SWEET water and BITTER?

There is a similarity between the words we use with our Lord and Father and words we use whentalking to people. With my words I’ve blessed God and I’ve cursed God. I’ve blessed people and cursed people. Sadly, I’ve blessed my children an cursed my children not with profanities, but with things I’ve said to them. How about you dad? These things ought not so to be.

Let’s do just a little Greek word study. The word translated bless is eulogia {yoo-log-ee’-ah} -- fine discourse, polished language, an invocation [summoning] of blessing, benediction, benefit, a concrete blessing. “Language” is verbal communication. We speak something, but when used to bless it’s “polished language.” Something polished is smooth and shiny due to being rubbed and worked with. A blessing is an “invocation” meaning summoning “benefits” in life with a “benediction” of good wishes. This sets in “concrete” great things.

Dad’s when was the last time you blessed your children? I don’t mean the last time you hoped they would do well so they wouldn’t bother you. I mean the last time you took them aside and with polished words summoned God’s benefits into the concrete of their soul? It’s what every child needs and it’s what every child wants.

The word curse doesn’t mean profanity, although profanity would be an aspect of it. Curse is kataraomai{kat-ar-ah’-om-ahee} -- to curse, doom, imprecate [wish] harm or evil upon. Sadly, some fathers unknowingly did this and some have spent their entire life battling the curse of their father rather than living the polished blessing. Fathers, we need to learn the fine language of polished blessing. We need to not only speak it to our children. We need to teach it to our children so they can speak it and teach it to our grandchildren. We have power to summon God’s blessing and polish the souls of our children and grandchildren. We can put their success and future in concrete. A polished blessing for your children will make the diamond sparkle.

Every person needs what the bible calls “The Blessing.” It when the father blessed his children with polished words setting in concrete God’s blessings. Children actually longed for the blessing in their souls. It’s something we want and should have. The scriptures give us stories of how children realized the words of their father possessed the power to summon success, prosperity, health, and abundance into their futures.

We read a powerful story in Genesis chapter 48 about Joseph (the child with the coat of many colors eventually becoming second in command over Egypt) bringing his two children, Ephraim and Manasseh, to their grandfather and Joseph’s father, Jacob (who’s name God changed to Israel [Gen 32:28]). Israel, old with depreciated vision, asked who Joseph brought with him.

Genesis 48:9 “They are the SONS GOD HAS GIVEN ME here,” Joseph said to his father. Then Israel said, “BRING THEM TO ME SO I MAY BLESS THEM.”

Israel/Jacob desired to speak into the futures of his grandsons. He knew the concrete irrevocable power of polished words. Do you dad? He had experienced it himself (more about this later). This blessing was a big deal. It was supernatural and prophetic. He put his crossed hands on his grandsons and spoke an invocation into their souls summoning God’s irrevocable blessings.

I’ve had the honor to be at the births of our four grandsons. As soon as possible, I got my hands on those boys and I spoke polished words into their futures. I didn’t know about doing this when my children were born, but as soon as I learned, I spoke polished words into the futures of my children. It’s now amazing watching those words become lives of solid concrete. Here is a part of what Israel/Jacob said.

Genesis 48:16 the Angel who has DELIVERED ME FROM ALL HARM -- may he BLESS THESE BOYS. May they be called by MY NAME AND THE NAMES OF MY FATHERS Abraham and Isaac, and may they INCREASE GREATLY UPON THE EARTH.

Fathers bless your children and grandchildren with polished words. Speak angelic supernatural protection of God over them. Speak a continued generational relationship with God. Set into concrete their increase greatly upon the earth.

In Genesis chapter 27 we find Jacob’s story about receiving “the blessing.” He desired “the blessing” so badly he stole it from his older brother Esau by deceiving his father Isaac into giving it to him. Isaac was old and nearly blind. One day Isaac said to Esau,

Genesis 27:4 Prepare me the kind of tasty food I like and bring it to me to eat, so that I may GIVE YOU MY BLESSING before I die.

It would be a special time between child and father. Rebekah, Isaac’s wife and Jacob’s mother overheard. Rebekah wanted Jacob to have the blessing, not Esau. She instructed Jacob to kill goats. They would deceive Isaac into thinking Jacob was Esau. Jacob said something powerful.

Genesis 27:12 What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down aCURSE on myself rather than a BLESSING.”

Jacob knew his father’s words had the power to bless him or to curse him. Think about that. Like it or not, our fathers have blessed our lives or cursed our lives with their words (more later). Father, I want you to know today you are powerful. God has given you the power to bless your children with polished words. No matter if you realize it or not, a father’s words affect his children’s futures either for good or for bad.

Our children were not perfect, but we never emphasized their imperfections. We emphasized what they did well. We told them they could do anything. We told them they were smart. We blessed and praised them with polished words polishing their souls and polishing their futures. We still do this today. We tell them how proud we are of them. We praise them in public. We do this to our grandchildren as well. We are pouring the concrete of their increase and greatness on the earth.

In the story, Jacob put on Esau’s clothes to smell like Esau. Esau was a hairy man. Rebekah stuck goat’s hair on Jacob’s hands and neck and he went to his dad before Esau returned.

Genesis 27:19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game so that YOU MAY GIVE ME YOUR BLESSING.”

Children want your blessing dad. It may be uncomfortable, but it’s something you will be thrilled you did. Jacob convinced his father he was Esau and Isaac gave Jacob the blessing.

Genesis 27:28-29 May God give you of heaven’s dew and of earth’s richness -- an abundance of grain and new wine. May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you… May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.

Isaac’s declared great things over his child even though Isaac thought it was a different child. Isaac summoned Jacob’s future even though he thought it was Esau’s future. This is the power of the blessing.

Esau came back. When Jacob’s deception was discovered, Esau wept and pleaded the blessing be undone. His father said something necessary for us to understand and pass on to our children. Note how the NLB version says this.

(NLB) Genesis 27:33 Isaac began to tremble uncontrollably and said, “…I BLESSED HIM WITH AN IRREVOCABLE BLESSING before you came.”

Fathers, there is an irrevocable power in your words. It can’t be undone. A supernatural power is released for your children when you declare and pronounce a polished blessing. It cannot be changed. It cannot be undone. The KJV writes it, “…yea, and he shall be blessed.”

When I dedicated our second grandson Max, his mother Bonnie, our daughter, asked me to speak the following verses over him. I did and have since spoken them over every child I’ve been given the opportunity to dedicate. It’s how God said to bless the children of God. God desires polished words be spoken over his children.

Numbers 6:22-27 The LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘THIS IS HOW YOU ARE TO BLESS the Israelites. SAY TO THEM: The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace. SO THEY WILL PUT MY NAME ON the Israelites, AND I WILL BLESS THEM.

The way God says to bless someone is say to them. We bless our children with our words. A blessing is not a blessing until we say to them. Speak words of victory and faith, hope, and peace. Declare God’s goodness and graciousness. Declare words of God’s favor. Declare God’s face smile upon them. Put God’s name on them and God will bless them.

I want to declare good things over your life today if you will allow me. Some have had negative things spoken over you. I want to break them with and IRREVOKABLE BLESSING OF POLISHED WORDS. I want to place in concrete good things for your future. Will you receive a blessing with polished words? If you will, please bow your heads and receive God’s blessing from me.

I declare in the name of Jesus, you are blessed with God’s wisdom and you have clear direction for your life.

I declare you are blessed with creativity, with courage, with ability, and with abundance.

I declare you are blessed with a strong will, with self-control, and with self-discipline.

I declare you are blessed with a great family, with good friends, with good health, and with faith, favor and fulfillment.

I declare you are blessed with success, with supernatural strength, with promotion, and with divine protection.

I declare you are blessed with an obedient heart and with a positive outlook on life.

I declare any curse ever spoken over you, any negative or evil word coming against you, now broken in the name of Jesus Christ.

I declare you are blessed in the city. You are blessed in the country. You are blessed when you go in. You are blessed when you come out.

I declare everything you put your hands to will  prosper and succeed.

I declare you are blessed.

If you receive the blessing shout to the Lord.

I want to challenge you fathers to purposely give the irrevocable blessing with polished words to your children if you haven’t. Even if you have, it won’t hurt to do it again with a little more understanding.

I want everyone, men and women, if possible, to find a way to go to your father if living and make him bless you. Do what Jacob did if necessary. The older I get, the more important I see this being. If nothing else, tell him to read what I have written here over you. This will heal and you will receive anIRREVOCABLE BLESSING WITH POLISHED WORDS.
