Scriptures: Proverbs 21:5, Luke 9:51, Habakkuk 2:2, Proverbs 23:7, Mark 11:23-24, Genesis 2:7

We are talking about Setting Your Life’s Goals. How many began working on your 5-Year Life’s Fantasy Goals? The reason we are discussing the importance of setting goals for our lives is that with goals success is eminent.

Proverbs 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.

Failing to plan and establish goals in our lives is only planning for poverty. Jesus was very goal oriented. He had his life clearly planned in intense detail. He could repeat his life’s goals with passionate specifics as he did to his disciples frequently. Last time we talked about how goals must go through a “rendering” process. I want to talk more about it today.

Luke 9:51 As the time approached FOR HIM TO BE TAKEN UP TO HEAVEN, Jesus RESOLUTELY SET OUT FOR JERUSALEM.

Jesus resolutely set out for his goal -- Jerusalem, but the goal wasn’t to go to Jerusalem to be crucified, or even resurrected. Those were sub goals. His Major Definite Resolute Goal at the top of the list was to be taken up to heaven. This goal had the power to push Jesus through and accomplish all the difficult goals he faced.

Establishing a Major Definite Resolute Goal in your life -- a goal at the top of the list -- has the power to push you through the betrayals, mocking, scourging, crucifixions and even burials life will hit you with. A Major Definite Resolute Goal has the power to push you through to resurrection and ascension. It may seem you failed, but with the proper goal in your life, you will rise again and ascend going higher in life.

We’ve spoken about the Greek word translated resolutely being sterizo {stay-rid’-zo} meaning to make stable, place firmly, set fast, fix; to render constant confirming one’s mind, but I want to take it further. Jesus rendered his mind. He rendered the graphics of his goal in his mind as a computer graphic designer renders a video, or an artist renders a piece of art. Before it’s on canvas, he sees it inside. Jesus rendered out the sounds of Jerusalem in his mind as a musician renders a piece of music hearing it deep inside before hearing it outwardly. Jesus cooked Jerusalem down inside as a woman renders a roast cooking it down for aroma and taste. He rendered out the verdict deep inside as a jury renders a verdict assimilating all the sights and sounds and events the evidence brings. Jesus rendered out the drama of Jerusalem as an actor renders his part in a play. Jesus knew what would happen at Jerusalem. He rendered it so deeply he saw it, heard it, smelled it, tasted it, and felt it inwardly before it was reality outwardly. He explained the graphic details to his disciples. His five senses were experiencing it inwardly in such reality that sweat came from his body like drops of blood (Luk 22:44).

Before reality came outwardly, it happened inwardly -- seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching. That’s how badly Jesus wanted his goal to be taken up to heaven. How badly do you want your Definite Major Resolute Goal? Do you have one? Most people don’t. If you do, how deeply have you rendered it? Is it clear? Can you see it? Hear it? Smell it? Taste it? Touch it? Does thinking about it have an external affect on you? A Major Definite Resolute Goal must be so plain you can write it with extreme passion and clarity so even a child can get it.

(AMP) Habakkuk 2:2 And the Lord answered me and said, WRITE THE VISION AND ENGRAVE IT SO PLAINLY upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and QUICKLY] as he hastens by.

Delbert, I don’t want to write it. Then you don’t have a vision or a Major Definite Goal for your life. You have a wish and a hope, but you haven’t set goals for your life and no goal could end in poverty.

What is your Major Definite Resolute Goal in life at this moment? A Major Definite Resolute Goal can be defined as the one goal most important to you at the moment. Achieving this one goal is usually the key to achieving all other sub goals.

So, let me help you discover yours and help you achieve it. First, what is it you, at this point in your life, want more than anything? What is it you really enjoy thinking about having, doing, being, etc? What do you think about?

Proverbs 23:7 For AS HE THINKETH IN HIS HEART, SO is he…

Thinketh is sha`ar -- to split or open, i.e. to act as gate keeper. It’s not just a thought. It’s to purposefully split or open. It’s getting the gate keeper of the heart to open the gate, for in the heart what we think becomes “so.” Jesus said it did.

Mark 11:23-24 “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and DOES NOT DOUBT IN HIS HEART but believes that what he says WILL HAPPEN, IT WILL BE DONE FOR HIM. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED IT, AND IT WILL BE YOURS.

Once in the heart it will happen. Once in the heart it’s past involuntary. “It will be done for him.” Prayer is a time to render, removing doubt by seeing it, hearing it, smelling it, tasting it, touching it and rendering it as though “YOU HAVE RECEIVED IT” -- past tense. When you do, “IT WILL BE YOURS.” Jesus said so.

Your heart is powerful. What we can think in the heart becomes reality. If we can get a goal -- moving a mountain -- into our heart so deep we act as if “you have received it,” it “will happen, it will be done for him”and “it will be yours.”

So the real goal is not the goal. The real goal is getting the “gate keeper” to open the gate into the heart. What is the “gate keeper?” The gate keeper to your heart is your soul or subconscious. We talked about it last time, so I’m not going to go all through it again. Simply, Jesus said love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mar 12:30). Using that as a guide, we use our strength, but must get past our personal strength limitations. Using only personal strength will not produce the goal of loving God. We use our mind to love God, but must get beyond the mind as its enmity and hostile with God (Rom 8:7). The mind doesn’t understand the things of God and never will. We must get into the soul dimension where life happens.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils THE BREATH OF LIFE; and man became a LIVING SOUL.

Even dust lives in the soul dimension. The soul is the subconscious involuntary part of our being. You don’t use your mind there. It’s where your heart beats, your lungs breath, your body temp remains at 98.6. When cut you involuntarily heal without thinking about it. It’s where life is. When the Major Definite Resolute Goal enters the soul/subconscious area it begins to breath. It comes alive to your senses as that’s where the senses live.

Every person has a Reticular Cortex, or Reticular Formation, in our brain. [Picture] “The Reticular Formation “Is a network of nerve pathways and nuclei throughout the brainstem, connecting motor nerves and sensory nerves to and from the spinal cord, the cerebellum, and the cerebrum. It is estimated that a single neuron in this network may have synapses [communication] with as many as 25,000 other neurons.”The Reticular Cortex functions involuntarily and does a trillion things at one time in your body -- your subconscious, your soul.

The Reticular Cortex functions similarly as does a central telephone switchboard in a huge city. All calls are received at the switchboard and then effortlessly rerouted to the appropriate location. All information to our five senses is routed through the Reticular Cortex to our awareness. The Reticular Cortex causes all involuntary senses to work properly. Our seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting are dependent upon receiving the message into and from the Reticular Cortex. This is the subconscious or soul area of man. When God breathed into Adam this became alive and Eve became a goal.

We know when a goal has moved into the soul. Involuntarily things happen. We experience sudden constant awareness of the goal -- very sensitive, alert to people, opportunities, ideas, and our environment all helping us achieve the goal all involuntarily.

We’ve all experienced this. For example, say your goal was to have a red sports car. You begin thinking about and visualizing your red sports car. You can see yourself in it, touching and smelling the leather, driving it, hearing it roar, and even washing it. The goal is sent to the Reticular Cortex saying a red sports car is important to you. The Reticular Cortex sends the goal to your senses -- “mental radar screen” -- making you aware of every red sports car around. You involuntarily notice red sports cars everywhere. You scan every car dealership for red sport cars. Blocks away, your radar will spot a red sports car making a right turn. They’re parked in driveways. Your world fills with red sports cars. Your soul opened the gate to your heart and it became reality. It will be done for you. It will be yours.

I wanted a new boat. I found myself “radaring” every boat I saw. I scanned every boat dealership. I saw all my equipment transferred to my new boat. I saw myself fishing in it, heard it roar, felt the wind in my face, and smelled the ocean. I lived it inwardly before I ever stepped foot inside it. I got my boat and it was done for me.

It’s this way with anything that becomes a true goal and not simply a wish. We make wishes in our mind. We make a goal in our soul. If you will render your Major Definite Resolute Goal in your soul using your 5 senses to get the goal to your Reticular Cortex, your soul will open the gate to your heart and reality happens. Reality happens in loving God when it’s involuntary and God is real, right here, right now.

If you want a Major Definite Resolute Goal of being financially independent, see yourself debt free, hear, smell, taste, and touch it. When it gets into your soul, you will know. Your senses come alive. You will see “Get out of Debt” stories in magazines and books. You will find yourself in conversations hearing about becoming financially independent. Ideas, people, and information will come to you. Let it breathe. Keep it alive. You will find ways to spend less, save more, receive more income, etc. The soul will open the gate to the heart and the heart will make it happen. It will be done for you. You will have it.It will be yours.

 (1) A Major Definite Resolute Goal is something you really, really, really want. The desire for this goal is so intense the very idea of achieving it excites you and makes you happy.

(2) A Major Definite Resolute Goal must be clear and specific. You must be able to say it, define it, and write it with extreme clarity. Your soul needs clarity.

(3) A Major Definite Resolute Goal must be measurable. For example you say, “My income is $100,000 a year by January (? year).” (Make it present tense. Jesus said, “Believe that you HAVE received it.”)

(4) A Major Definite Resolute Goal must be believable and achievable. It cannot be so ridiculous it’s unattainable. You can’t doubt in your heart. For example, if your goal is to have income of $100,000 a year, you must first have income and a plan that increases your income. A ridiculous goal will end up discouraging rather than encouraging. A key is can you believe it? If you can’t believe it, your mind and subconscious mind/soul will reject it.

 (5) A Major Definite Resolute Goal must be in harmony with other goals. I can’t goal to be financially independent while deeply in debt and, at the same time, have a goal to go fishing every day. Major goals must be in harmony with sub goals. All Jesus’ sub goals were in harmony with his Major Goal.

Major Definite Resolute Goal – sermon video audio notes

A key question to determine your Major Definite Goal is “If you knew you could not fail, if God guaranteed you success for any goal, what one goal would it be?” If you can define it, speak it, and write it clearly, it’s probably achievable.

Write out 5 goals you would want to accomplish in the foreseeable future. What are your mountains? Write them in the present tense. “Believing you have received it” (Mar 11:24). For example write, “I weigh ‘x’ pounds.” “I earn ‘x’ dollars per year.” “I am totally healthy.” “I am happily married to my perfect spouse.” After completing the list, go back over the list asking, “What one goal on this list, if accomplished immediately, would have the greatest positive impact on my life?” Most of the time, this is your Major Definite Resolute Goal. Write it. Render it through your senses. Get it to your subconscious/soul (Reticular Cortex) and into your heart. Jesus said, “It will be yours.”
